A brand-new book on Geomatics Engineering has been announced: Project Design for Geomatics Engineers and Surveyors, Second Edition. The book targets a broad audience with a practice-oriented approach and the Founder of Impact Borderless Digital (IBD) is a co-author.
Project Design for Geomatics Engineers and Surveyors, Second Edition has been written by geospatial engineering experts with the goal of helping readers navigate the priority issues when planning new projects. It has been created with a wide audience in mind β undergraduate and graduate students, professors, practicing professionals and surveyors will find it useful, as well as geospatial/geomatics engineers, civil engineers, mining engineers, GIS professionals, planners, land developers, and project managers.
Written by geospatial experts with a rich mix of teaching, industry and research experience as well as international exposure to various projects and intercultural policy and organisational settings, the book engages a practice-oriented approach to address the gaps and weak or missing links that industry players have been raising, including the following:
- The low state of preparedness of young graduates for transitioning from academic knowledge to the dynamic and geodata-driven world of work and business.
- The sub-optimal state of preparedness of graduates and practitioners with the soft and transferrable skills needed to prepare and present compelling geomatics project proposals that are responsive to contemporary policy, social, ethical, economic and environmental issues.
- The unmet need for books that promote local content drawing on homegrown experience, as informed by projects in the authors’ home countries or regions of work assignment.
- The urgent and compelling need for mentoring the youth in geomatics through collaborative book projects so that they can transition into professionals capable of researching, writing and advancing knowledge and practice in geomatics and related disciplines.

Book Launch in Kenya
The publisher, Taylor & Francis Group, will officially release the book on March 23, 2023. An initial book launch in Kenya has been scheduled for the same date. Register to join on this Zoom link. The authors will briefly talk about the book contents and how readers can get the most out of it. More important, however, will be to use the opportunity to receive feedback from professionals and various stakeholders on the book and what the authors need to consider in the subsequent editions. All geomatics professionals and professional bodies, especially the Institution of Surveyors of Kenya (ISK), are welcome to join and enrich the dialogue.

This is the product of more than a decade of dedicated experience in research, skills development, training, and mentorship. Through mentorship and career development fora, IBD empowers youth with the knowledge, international exposure, and digital fluency they need to be emancipated global citizens with borderless influence for sustainable development.
